Currently teaching assistant of Prof. Jesus Castro-Balbi, Tsun-yuet Emmanuel Kwok is a doctoral student majoring in cello performance at Texas Christian University with full scholarship awarded. Native of Hong Kong, he received several awards including the 1st prize in Hong Kong Music Festival and the 2nd prize of National Competition of Asia. Appears as solo cellist, he gave concerts in Europe, Asia and United States, he also gave solo performance with orchestra including Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Academy Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Baptist University Orchestra and Collegium Musicum Hong Kong. He appeared in most of the main concert halls in Hong Kong as a recitalist and had also given over 30 world premiere performances of contemporary music. Worked with both worship ministries and pop singers in Southeast Asia, he has recorded more than 10CDs as solo cellist. Besides, he was teaching assistant of Hong Kong Baptist University, guest artist of Hong Kong University and guest soloist of Hong Kong Chinese University.
As an orchestral cellist, Kwok had served as principal cellist with various orchestra including Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Lee University(USA), Lee University Chamber String, Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, associate principal of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Academy Symphony Orchestra, guest associate principal cellist of Hong Kong City University Symphony Orchestra, guest principal of Plano Sinfonietta(USA), member of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong New Symphony, Plano Symphony(USA) and Iriving Symphony(USA).
Kwok has a deep studied on both French and Russian style of cello playing. He began cello study in the Hong Kong Music Office at the age of 6. Early teachers including Mr. Hung Lap, Ms. Tung Hui-loo, Mr. Artem Konstantinov and Mr. Cheung Ming-yuen, he finished his Master of Cello Performance in Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under Prof. Ray Wang. Few years later, he finished his Artist Diploma at Texas Christian University under Prof. Jesus Castro-Balbi. In America, he had also studied under Prof. Eugene Osadchy, Dr. Ignacy Gaydamovich, Ms. Jennifer Humphreys, Ms. Christine Lamprea and Ms. Annie Camp. His playing was also influenced greatly by Prof. Vagram Saradjian, Dr..Dmitri Atapine and Mr. Johannes Moser. Kwok is playing two cellos: A Stradivarius copy by Wayne Burak and a custom cello “Altair” by Kwok’s brother Tsun-huen Corvus Kwok, a composer as well as a professional viol maker. Starting 2018, together with Hong Kong born pianist Fenix Kwan-kong Man, Kwok and Man play as Künstlersaal Duo and is planning to play recital tour every summer in countries of Asia.
Kwok believes that live performance reflecting true personality and believe. He is a Christian and believes performers are servants of God, composers and viol makers; he had run a long way to understand and explore the truth connecting spirit, life and musical life. Besides cello playing, he loves fishing, reading, trying new foods and music arranging. He joined B-Sharp Team since Nov 2015.
